“I am blown away by Julie’s work! She has a precision for detail and was able to find so many ways to make our books so much better. I am also extremely impressed by the timeliness in which she returned the manuscripts to us. She is a wonderful person to work with.” ~ Leigh Estok, New Morning Books

Creating books can be fun and rewarding! It’s also a lot of work! So I am here to offer you my support in the final leg of your publishing journey. Congratulations on making it here!

I have self-published six books and have been the editor of two poetry anthologies. I have a good eye for detail and would love to help you bring your book to life! As a proofreader, I help you put the finishing touches on your book right before publication. If you have a previously published book that needs some updating, I can also help you with that.

What I Do   In will check for typos and punctuation errors, and I will make sure that your book has a consistent visual style and formatting.

What I Don't Do   I am not a book editor. I will not help you with the overall flow of your book or your writing technique. However, I may point out a word that has been used incorrectly or a sentence that flows awkwardly.

How I Work   I focus best when I'm curled up on my sofa with a paper manuscript and my red pen. You send me a hard copy of your manuscript and I will make the corrections and send it back to you. Before I send it, I will take pictures of every page that has corrections. That way, if you have any questions, we can discuss it. I realize this is a somewhat old-fashioned way of doing things; however, I have found that I am at my best in finding what needs to be corrected when I am holding an actual book in my hand.

Before we agree to work together, I ask that you email me a digital copy of your manuscript that shows the word count. I also like to get a feel for what your book is about. I like to proof positive, uplifting books that I also enjoy reading. If your book is a violent murder mystery, then I will pass.

You will get the most out of this process if your manuscript is in its final format. If you have loaded it into Amazon and have a proof copy of the final book, that is the best. No matter what stage it is in, it will need to have page numbers.

What I Charge   My fee is one cent per word, so a 40,000-word manuscript would be $400. This includes the postage to return your manuscript to you. I accept payment via Zelle or PayPal. There is a 50% deposit to begin work. The remainder is due upon completion and before I return the manuscript to you. If your book has an index or some other complex format, there may be an extra charge.

Smaller Jobs I can also proofread a website or even a blog post. You can copy the text into a Word document and email it to me. I will print it out, mark it up, and email photos of the markups back to you. There is a minimum $10 charge for any small job, paid up front.

If you are interested in working with me, I look forward to talking with you! Please contact me via the form on the Home page.
